Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) Intending to address the rapidly changing global environment, this curriculum helps its students become prepared for entering the rapidly changing and ever-competitive business world by equipping them with the necessary skills that suit the industry's needs with the university’s highly qualified and competitive educational services. The course offerings in this curriculum are grounded in the principles of the pragmatics of business, organization development, leadership, and experiential learning, where students develop their critical thinking, cultural competency, and ethical decision-making abilities. Program Description The Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) programs cater for graduates and executives to enhance their functional and technical competencies and advance their level of administrative and management functions in the general business environment. It intends to teach students all of the necessary skills and knowledge in functional and technical areas to become globally competitive business leaders and professional managers through essential business strategy, financial decision-making, and organizational theory and behavior. Similarly, it is committed to producing proficient global managers, resilient, sharp, and ethical decision-makers, and innovators in a rapidly changing business world. Faithful to intellectual expertise and leadership, the DBA program aims to enhance skills in analytical thinking, good judgment, innovation, creativity, effective communication, and change management needed by the national and global industry in the 21st century. It aims to develop competencies through theory and practice. Program Learning Outcomes As postulated in CMO 15, S 2019, the DBA program leads to an advanced research qualification and is devoted to advanced study and original research. Graduates are expected to demonstrate the following: Demonstrate thoroughly advanced systematic knowledge and skills in highly specialized and/or complex interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary fields of learning; Utilize complex research, creative work, and/or professional practice and/or the advancement of learning with full independence in individual work and/or in teams in an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary business setting; Apply a more complex setting that requires strong and sharp leadership in research and critical and creative work with strategic value added, technology-based development, and awareness of ethical dimensions and professional standards in decision-making; Apply a significant level of expertise-based autonomy and accountability to professional leadership in innovation, research, and/or development management in highly specialized, interdisciplinary, or multi-disciplinary fields; Show the integration of business and non-business disciplines to produce new ideas, strategies, and practical approaches to address business difficulties encountered by senior leadership in organizations; Generate, evaluate, and assess the ethical obligations and responsibilities of business for the purpose of responsible management, leadership, and lifelong learning; Demonstrate the ability to address complex industry challenges using the frameworks of industry rules and regulations that build prescriptive and ethical conclusions and effectively communicate real-world experience and knowledge; Use critical and analytical thinking to identify viable options that can create short-term and long-term value for organizations and their stakeholders and remain responsive to national and global business demands. The DBA program concludes with the submission and defense of a dissertation representing a significant contribution to knowledge in the respective field of study. It is expected that the DBA student submit his or her dissertation for publication. Doctor in Education Management (DEM) As the largest public university in the nation, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is deeply committed to giving its students the best education possible. As a result, it is within the PUP College of Education’s responsibility to ensure that its graduates represent quality and integrity in the field of education by developing them into complete individuals as well as exceptional teachers. These future educational administrators and teachers will lead reforms and advancements in the field, leaving their marks wherever they go with the skills, knowledge, and heart of a true leader. The Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001, otherwise known as Republic Act 9155, defines the roles and responsibilities of educational leaders at all levels of education in the country, as well as the framework for the governance of basic education. It mandates that educational administrators, particularly school heads, perform both their administrative and instructional responsibilities. Both the National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads and DepEd Order 024, Section 2020, also known as DepEd Order 025, list the numerous skills and competencies that educational leaders need to have in order to effectively manage resources and people. The DEM program is more than ready to take the reins as PUP strives to become a National Polytechnic University. Because of the widespread effects of the pandemic, it is more crucial than ever to incorporate technology into every aspect of human life, including the educational system, whose curriculum is a reflection of this reality. The goal of this program is to arm the candidates with the abilities and information necessary to deal with the challenges that will inevitably face them as capable and respectable educational leaders in the real world. Program Description The Doctor in Education Management (DEM) Program is a 51-unit academic track that aims to produce competent and skilled educational leaders who will take on educational leadership and managerial roles in their respective educational institutions. The program provides its graduates with the required proficiencies to demonstrate highly advanced and systematic knowledge and skills in the specialized discipline of education and apply these through practice and research. Doctor in Engineering Management (D.Eng.) Program Description This program is designed to accommodate students who are interested in becoming researchers in engineering management, as well as those who hold or seek managerial and decision-making positions in public and private organizations characterized by innovation and technological leadership. The program seeks to equip students with the ability to define, evaluate, design, improve, and manage complex human technological systems for the optimization of certain objectives that take into account several interrelated factors such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, sustainability, and others. Program Learning Outcomes The doctorate program in engineering management has the following main goals and objectives: To prepare graduate engineers from various specializations for successful research careers that combine depth in engineering research methodologies with broad knowledge of the socio-economic implications associated with major engineering decisions and technological innovations; To prepare graduate engineers to assume leading roles in researching current and new approaches to effectively manage change and leverage technological innovations; To improve graduate engineers' creative abilities and confidence in finding original solutions to pressing and complex problems; To increase the long-term sustainability factors associated with the adoption of new engineering processes or technologies; and To prepare graduate engineers to be leaders in disseminating new knowledge and imparting new concepts and ideas to members of the public. Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) The surge of the COVID-19 pandemic has not only proven the need for public health workers worldwide, but also the need for professionals and public servants with leadership qualities that exemplify competence in public policy, social justice, good governance, national security, public services, research, planning and development, organizational management, consultancies, etc. It is at this juncture that experts and practitioners in the field of public administration become essential in the institutional, local, and national spheres. Public Administration is a degree program that prepares people for careers in public administration and governance for the public interest. It is a specialized program for students who want to pursue and further their careers in government agencies, non-government and non-profit organizations, and other institutions or organizations that serve the public interest. Since public administration requires not only knowledge but also skills among its students, there is a need to focus its curriculum on learning competency-based standards or outcomes-based education and to strengthen the core competencies expected from the graduates of the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA). The curriculum attempts to combine in-depth study with practical skills, including technology-aided systems or processes, which are essentially inherent in polytechnic universities. The government, being the country’s largest employer, needs to have a continuing supply of competent, committed, and professional public servants, leaders, and agents of change. In dire times for the country, like the devastation of pandemics, disasters, and economic crises, graduates of public administration are indispensable. Hence, as a polytechnic university, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines must strengthen the curriculum of its DPA Program to meet the demands of the country in the 21st century and to keep pace with national and international standards. Program Description The Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) program at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines is a graduate program that provides advanced competencies among students. These competencies are situated in accordance with the demands of research, instruction, government agencies, non-government and non-profit organizations, and other institutions that are beneficial to the public interest in the 21st century. The program is the institutional response of the university to the increasing demands of the country for leaders, experts, and consultants. The DPA Program of PUP trains its students to conduct research pertinent to the crafting and execution of public policies, supervising fiscal policy, initiating strategic development, realizing government programs, and managing crises and emergencies. It also prepares its students to teach the next generation of instructors, researchers, and practitioners in the field. Through research and instruction, the program aims to hone its students into public administration professionals imbued with ethical standards, sound leadership, academic integrity, and well-informed decisions.
